We've all been there, you (the parent) are over the moon to get your kid something, and once you gleefully hand this wonderful item to your kid they are curious about it for about 0.5 seconds and move onto something else that is capturing their attention.
And you're standing there thinking 'What?!, But...I just....' and internal screaming ensues and you move on.
When it comes to 2 wheels, we are self-proclaimed fanatics over here and we have striven to find a solution so that you are not faced with an indifferent kiddo.
Our advice - Start em' young!
Conventional pedal bikes enter a riders life around the age of 2...you could have a fearless biker MUCH earlier than this! Balance and Strider bikes are meant to be given to your little one around the time they start walking. These 'entry' bikes give kids an opportunity to learn balance, and put in place the beginning body mechanics of how a bicycle functions before they need to get their feet onto pedals.
And if possible - ditch the training wheels. Training wheels, in short, put the emphasis on pedaling over balance. They certainly have their place, but it eliminates the fear of falling and can make learning how to ride a bike a steeper learning curve.
Balance and Strider bikes help in another area as well - building confidence. These bikes are lightweight and give your youngster a chance to master on-bike balance in their own time. And this goes without saying, but the mental and physical energy expelled as they learn this new skill is engaging and fun for your kid. Who doesn't want a happy and tired kid?!
